Philippe Corcia is Professor of Neurology at Tours University and has served as Chair of the Reference Coordinating ALS Center at Tours University Hospital since 2002. This center diagnoses between 80 and 100 new ALS cases annually and currently follows a cohort of more than 290 patients.
At the national and European levels, he chairs the French ALS/Motor Neuron Disease Study Group and serves on the governance committee of TRICALS, as well as on the Board of the European Network for the Cure of ALS (ENCALS), contributing to the coordination of large-scale collaborative research initiatives in the field of motor neuron diseases. He also coordinates the Mine project in France.
His research activities are conducted within Inserm Unit 1253 (iBrain) and focus on ALS pathophysiology, with a particular emphasis on genetics and multi-omics approaches. A major component of this work involves the identification and validation of cerebrospinal fluid and blood biomarkers for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. Over the past five years, his team has also developed a sustained and productive research program dedicated to TDP-43 biology and pathology. In parallel, the group is actively engaged in multiple collaborative international research projects.
Finally, he is strongly committed to clinical research and is actively involved in national and international clinical trials in ALS. He has authored or co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed publications in the field of motor neuron diseases. In 2019, the ENCALS Annual Meeting held in Tours recognized the commitment of the clinical and research teams in ALS.
