Mattoscio, Miriam

Dr Miriam Mattoscio is a Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammation, and the Clinical Lead for Neurology and the MS service at Queens Hospital Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust. She is a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London. She is a Collegiate Member of the RCP and a Fellow of the American academy of Neurology FAAN.

She received her medical degree from G.D’ Annunzio University, in Chieti, Italy, with Distinction, then completing her neurology training and graduating Magna Cum Laude. During the last year of her specialty training, she completed a visiting research program conducting a pilot clinical study in the field of Neuroimmunology at Imperial College London, supported by the ICL MS Clinical Trial Collaboration. She obtained a PhD in Clinical Neuroimmunology from Imperial College London, with her research on MS immunology and biology of Hematopoietic Stem Cells in MS supported by the Italian MS Society and the MRC.

She leads a number of clinical research studies on new treatments for MS, with a focus on progressive and advanced MS, and also on the genetic of the disease in people with different ancestral and ethnic background.

She runs a MDT Transition Neurology clinic and a Young Adult Neurology clinic for initial diagnosis and/or continuation of neurology care of teenager and young adults with neurological conditions.

She lectures on MS Immunology to both ICL undergraduates and Master Students in Translational Neuroscience. She collaborates with several researchers at ICL, UCLH, Bart and the London, the Association of British Neurologist ABN, the UK MS Trials and Registries group, and University of Verona, contributing to basic and translational research studies in the field of MS.

She has served as member of several advisory boards on MS clinical research and service improvement, MS treatment and medical education initiatives. .

She has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian MS Foundation FISM between 2018 and 2022 and currently serves as a reviewer for funding applications of FISM yearly call.
