Zvezdan Pirtošek, MD, PhD is a neurologist and professor of neurology based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He is Head of the Chair of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of
Ljubljana. His clinical and academic work focuses on neurodegenerative diseases, with particular expertise in cognitive impairment and dementias, Parkinson’s disease, and complex
movement disorders. He is strongly oriented toward clinically meaningful translation of neuroscience—improving diagnostic pathways, developing and applying assessment tools,
and advancing multidisciplinary, patient–centred care. His interests include the neurobiology of cognition and behaviour, the mechanisms and phenomenology of symptoms in
neurodegeneration, and the practical challenges of long–term neurological care across disease stages. He has contributed to national and international initiatives in brain health and ageing, and is actively involved in education and professional training for clinicians, students, and allied health professionals. Alongside his academic work, he is engaged in patient advocacy and
public outreach, supporting improved awareness, earlier recognition, and better care for people living with neurological disorders and their families. He serves as President of the Parkinson’s Society of Slovenia Trepetlika and President of the Expert Council of Spominčica – Alzheimer Slovenia.
