Martin Hardmeier attended medical school at Charité Hospital, Berlin (Germany) and passed the state exam in 1998. He obtained his MD with his thesis on functional imaging in Parkinson’s disease in 2002. He completed his residency in Neurology in Basel (Switzerland) and passed his board exam in 2012. His research fellowship (2009-2011) was focused on neurophysiological biomarkers in multiple sclerosis, including evoked potentials and EEG measures. It included a one-year stay at the Free University in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) in the lab of Prof. Stam. In 2015 he finished his habilitation and was appointed a lecturer at the University of Basel. Since 2012 he is working as a clinical fellow at the University Hospital Basel and holds the position of the deputy head of the EEG-division since 2021.
In his main research topic, he focused on the role of visual, somatosensory and motor evoked potentials to predict and monitor multiple sclerosis and their possible use as selection and response biomarkers in clinical trials.
