Robert is a clinician-scientist specialized in retina, deputy head of the department of Ophthalmology and professor of ophthalmic epidemiology at the University of Bonn, Germany.
Robert’s research is focused on assessing risk factors for the development and progression of age-related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases, treatment outcomes (patient and physician reported) and the development of novel outcome measures, including structural, functional and patient-reported assessments, all with a focus on retinal diseases. For this he applies epidemiological as well as clinical research methodology including qualitative research methods related to the development of patient reported outcomes as well as for patient participation. In order to better understand the value of high-resolution retinal imaging in all of this, he collaborates closely with AI experts to develop automated image analysis solutions applicable to research questions in ophthalmic epidemiology.
