Klivenyi, Peter

Peter Klivenyi, MD, PhD, chairman of the Department of Neurology, University of Szeged graduated at University of Szeged. He started his research carrier as an undergraduate student in the field of neurodegeneration. After graduation, he began his residency training at Department of Neurology, University of Szeged and joined to Professor Vecsei’ lab to continue his research of neurodegenerative disorders. He spent a predoctoral year in Flint Beal’ lab at Harvard Medical School in Boston as a research fellow, where he pioneered several neuroprotective drugs in genetic models of neurodegeneration. After board exam, he earned his PhD degree at University of Szeged and started his medical carrier as a movement disorder specialist. He sent another year with Professor Beal at Cornell University, as a postdoctoral fellow. After returning home he established Neurodegenerative Research Lab at University of Szeged. He supervised 12 research graduates to earn PhD degree. During his scientific carrier he published more than 245 peer reviewed paper with a citations over 8000. He serves as a member and deputy officer of several national and international society and committee. His major research interest in movement disorders, neurodegeneration and neurogenetics. his work is honored by Markusovszky, Joó Ferenc and Santha Kalman awards, Bolyai fellowships, excellent tutor of the University of Szeged and Knight of Cross from the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic.
