Mazurkiewicz-Bełdzińska, Maria

Maria Mazurkiewicz-Bełdzińska is a professor in Pediatric Neurology at the Medical University of Gdańsk in Gdańsk, Poland, where she leads the Developmental Neurology Clinic at the University Clinical Center. She is also a Consultant in Pediatric Neurology for Pomeranian Province in Poland and  Chairman of the Polish Society of Child Neurologists and the Polish Society for Epileptology.

Prof. Mazurkiewicz-Bełdzińska qualified from the Medical University of Gdańsk in 1989 .She underwent her training in Neurology and Pediatric Neurology in Gdańsk and Warsaw (Poland) and in Kuopio (Finland).  She obtained her PhD in Neurology from the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio, Finland.

Prof. Mazurkiewicz-Bełdzińska is as pediatric neurologist specialized in epilepsy and epileptic encephalopathies. Her major research interest is in understanding the underlying pathophysiology of epilepsy, especially the genetic and metabolic causes of this disease. She is leading the epilepsy programs at the Medical University in Gdańsk. In addition, she participates in several clinical trials with novel compounds for epilepsy, as well as clinical trials with novel types of therapy for rare neurological diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and ceroid lipofuscinosis type 2 (CLN2) disease.
