Prof. Roman Herzig, MD, PhD, FESO, FEAN graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University, Olomouc in 1992 and, at the same faculty, he completed his postgraduate studies in 2002, habilitated in 2007 and became a professor of Neurology in 2011. He worked at the Department of Neurology, District Hospital Přerov (1992–1996), Department of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University and University Hospital Olomouc (1996–2014) and is currently working at the Department of Neurology, Charles University Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital Hradec Králové. He completed internships in Finland, USA, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Sweden. He works as editor-in-chief of the journal Czech and Slovak Neurology and Neurosurgery and serves as a reviewer for many professional journals. He is a member of several professional societies, both national and international, including the Czech Neurological Society, Czech Stroke Society, World Stroke Organisation, and a fellow of the European Stroke Organisation and European Academy of Neurology. His research focuses on cerebrovascular diseases. He was a principal investigator in 1, co-investigator in 6, and collaborator in 9 research grants. He has delivered more than 700 presentations at national and international events. He published 182 original papers, 46 review articles, 2 books, 17 book chapters, and 2 textbooks. His papers have more than 2000 citations on Web of Science and his SCI h-index is 24. He is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in neurology and 9 of his postgraduate students have already completed their PhD studies.
