Martin Holtkamp is Medical Director of the Epilepsy-Center Berlin-Brandenburg, Berlin, Germany. He holds the ‘Friedrich von Bodelschwingh’ Endowed Professorship for Clinical and Experimental Epileptology at Charité University Hospital Berlin. He is also Head of the Clinical and Experimental Epileptology Research Group and the Department of Clinical Electroencephalography at Charité University Hospital, positions he has held since 2005 and 2007, respectively. His research focus in epilepsy is on pathophysiology and clinical management of status epilepticus and on various aspects of clinical epileptolology such as pharmacotherapy and epilepsy surgery. Dr Holtkamp is coordinator of the guideline “First epileptic seizure and epilepsy in adults” of the German Society for Neurology, furthermore he heads the guideline group on “Management of post-stroke seizures and epilepsy” of the European Stroke Organisation since 2015. He is member of the managing board of the German Society for Epileptology and head of this society’s academy of continuing education.
